9.) Final Project Sharing, Review, and Wrap-up: Creating Ideals of Beauty through Dance and Movement
Introduction:
In the past two weeks, students have prepared a reflective project that illustrates deepening understanding of how we perceive and create meaning for beauty in dance and movement. After each presentation, there will be time for a few questions. At the end of class, summarize the unit.
Classroom activities:
- Students present final projects.
-
Facilitate question and answer period.
- Review the video collage from first class, this time including clips from forms covered during the course. Ask the class if there are any changes in their responses or if reviewing the collages sparked any new thoughts?
Closing:
To close, summarize the unit by stating the learning outcomes. In this unit we sought to:
- understand that perception of beauty in dance (doing, making, responding) is not universal, but specific to particular communities;
- recognize different cultural notions of beauty in dance;
- appreciate where notions of beauty in dance come from;
- recognize their own constructions of beauty in dance;
- imagine possibilities, circumstances, and experiences in dance other than their own;
- understand the relationship between bodily habits and cultural ideas (about bodies);
- embody different concepts and experiences of beauty in dance
